SEAMUS The Society for Electro-Acoustic Music in the United States is pleased to announce the 2005 SEAMUS National Conference, the Crossroads Conference, to be held at Ball State University, April 14 – 16. SEAMUS 2005 seeks to explore the crossroads metaphor, including ideas of intersection, community, interchange and creative collaboration.

SEAMUS 2005 invites submissions of computer music with and without performers, works with video, installations, and other related works. Composers are invited to submit up to two works for consideration for presentation. Student compositions are highly encouraged. Submitters may download either a Music/Video Submission Form here or an Installation Submission Form click for download and follow the instructions for submitting works. Performing resources will be drawn from the Ball State University School of Music. Composers are also welcome to provide their own performers. Paper submissions and panel presentation proposals that deal with the above broad topics are encouraged, along with other topics related to computer music and intermedia composition, performance, human-computer interaction, software development, aesthetics, and history. Paper submissions will use an online submission process. More information about the submission process will be available on the SEAMUS2005 website when the online submission procedure has been activated.

Concerts will take place in the new Sursa Recital Hall, located in the new Music Instruction Building, and in Pruis Recital Hall, on the Ball State campus. Both halls will feature multi-channel diffusion speaker systems and support a wide variety of playback formats, including CD, DAT, DA-88, multi-channel computer playback, DVD-Video, miniDV, DV, SACD, and DVD-Audio. Paper presentations will also have multi-channel speaker systems and a variety of playback formats available for use.

Any current SEAMUS member, or any citizen or legal resident of the United States may submit works to the conference. Composers may submit a maximum of two pieces. Individuals may also submit a maximum of two papers/panel presentations. The host institution will pay licensing fees through BMI and ASCAP. Neither SEAMUS nor the host will pay rental fees for performance materials. Composers submitting works will supply scores and tapes that are required for performance at no cost to the host institution or SEAMUS.

Preference will be given to works with durations under 12 minutes in length. Due to schedulling considerations, works longer than 18 minutes will generally not be considered.

Submissions by SEAMUS members are free of charge. Submissions by citizens or legal residents of the US who are not SEAMUS members are subject to a submission fee of $15 per item. All submission fees are non-refundable.

SEAMUS uses an anonymous adjudication process for all music, video, and paper submissions. To maintain the integrity of the anonymous peer review process, all scores, technical descriptions, program notes and media must not have any personal identifying information.

Composers and authors whose works are selected for inclusion on the conference are required to attend the conference
