I pleased to announce that Kristine Burns has accepted the position of Editor of the Journal SEAMUS. Kris has been an active member of SEAMUS for thirteen years, and currently is the Director of the Electronic Music Studios at the Florida International University School of Music in Miami, Florida. As the owner and editor of WOW/EM, Women On the Web/ElectronMedia, she created an educational web site for young women interested in creative digital media, as well as science, math, and computers. She also served as the editor-in-chief of Women and Music in the US Since 1900: an encyclopedia (Greenwood Press, 2002), so she brings a wealth of experience to this important job. She has already proposed some very creative and innovative ideas for the future of our journal, which she will announce to the membership in the near future.
Kristine has already begun her editing duties and seeks input from the membership and the EAM community at large - go here for more details on calls for Assistant Editors, contributors and review items
I would also like to take this opportunity to once again thank Will Rice for the excellent job he did as Editor of the Journal SEAMUS for the past six years. He is already working closely with Kristine to effect a smooth transition, and he has offered to stay on as an associate editor, and to help in any other way he can. Please join me in thanking him for his outstanding contributions, and in welcoming Kristine to the SEAMUS Board of Directors.
- Russell Pinkston

Seamusonline update
|
|
The first of the planned SEAMUSONLINE automated systems, the Membership Database, is currently in beta test. Within two weeks time ( approx. 10/1/04) new or existing members will be able to join or renew online via a Verisign 124-bit encrypted secure socket using your Mastercard or Visa credit or debit card.
We would like to thank our beta testers Alan Strange, Jason Thomas, Chris Preissing and Drew Wheeler for their time and attention in the test process, Escapement Arts and Media for writing the massive amounts of code and Elainie Lillios for authoring the online system. Our only challenge now remains in orchestrating the installation in a manner befitting Elainie's forthright design.
