The Society for Electro-Acoustic Music in the United States (SEAMUS) 2019 National Conference will be held at Berklee College of Music and Boston Conservatory at Berklee in Boston Massachusetts, March 21-23, 2019. SEAMUS 2019 will present an eclectic and diverse blend of electro-acoustic music and music-oriented forms including fixed media electroacoustic works, works composed for real-time interactive performance, works combining sound and video, and sound installations. This year we are further exploring the inclusion of works involving dance. Berklee’s College and Conservatory are thrilled to host the SEAMUS 2019 Conference and we look forward to having you visit our vibrant campus and the city of Boston.

SUGGESTED THEME: Virtuosity & Crossover

We would like to encourage applicants to consider submitting works, papers, and workshop proposals that somehow touch upon the theme of Virtuosity & Crossover.  Electronic and Computer music have been on the forefront of genre-bending as well as aesthetical and technical crossover and with this history in mind we pose the question of what virtuosity means in this period of technological and stylistic flux; not only as it pertains to electroacoustic music, but how is it present in an atmosphere of increasing zigzagging between genres and style practices in general.

With the recent merger of the College and Conservatory, we propose a theme of Virtuosity and Crossover, in an effort to address what might be the changing face of music education, music literacy, and the multiple modalities of training and expression. Berklee College and Boston Conservatory combine to offer a microcosm of the of contemporary world of music and music education. With disciplines and sub-disciplines in Composition, Electronic Music and Production, Jazz, Improvisation, Traditional “Classical” Music Studies, Contemporary Performance Practices, Music Theatre, Opera and Dance and much more. We are excited to host the 2019 SEAMUS conference to celebrate our institutional merger as well as the emerging trends in virtuosity and crossover of creative enterprises.

Please Note:  The theme is only a suggestion. There will be no bias in the adjudication process for or against submissions which reference the theme.
