SEAMUS 2020 Digital Conference Launched!

May 30, 2020

Dear SEAMUS Members,

We’re happy to direct you to the SEAMUS 2020 online presentation and archive here: 2020.seamusonline.org

Though you may miss the Rotunda’s Dome Room, the 10.2 Genelec systems, and the personal connections, what you will find at this site nevertheless represents a compelling testament to the work (and grace) of our shared community.  The content is organized by category — concerts, papers, installations, community engaged practices, and special programming.  You can access concert playlists to experience our programming prowess, or jump to any composer and work you like.  Special thanks to our technical director Travis Thatcher and CCT graduate students for above-and-beyond help over the past few weeks, especially Alex Christie and Becky Brown.  Special thanks also to Adam Vidiksis for integrating the conference site with seamusonline.org.

To access the full gamut of information (including biographies) and get a better sense of the texture of the planned conference, please download a PDF version of the printed conference booklet here.

This year, all SEAMUS members will be able to vote for their top 10 pieces for inclusion on the Music from SEAMUS Volume 30 album.  Voting will take place through the seamusonline.org website — log in and look under the Members tab for the Music from SEAMUS 2020 ballot.

We are currently working out the plan for SEAMUS 2021.  No matter what kind of conference we land on, certain features of the 2020 conference will roll over: we will honor Annea Lockwood with our SEAMUS Award, Stephen Marotto will present the performer-curated concert, and ASCAP / SEAMUS commissioned pieces by Nathaniel Haering and Elliott Lupp will be presented.

We were deeply disappointed to have to call off the conference, to miss seeing and hearing everyone, and to share what we had made with this community.  Yet we hope this presentation will enable you to experience our community’s art, skill, and energy, fortifying and inspiring you in this challenging time.

Warm and best wishes,

Ted Coffey & Leah Reid
