Short Bio
Jonah Elrod is a composer who currently works as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Music at Luther College. Previously, he was an Associate Lecturer at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point where he taught music composition, theory, aural skills, and was the administrator of the Computer Music Center. He has a Ph.D. in music composition from the University of Iowa where he served as an Associate Director of the Electronic Music Studios. Jonah has also worked as the audio engineer and composer for the O-ffended podcast.
He is a composer who researches cycles and signals from the Earth and incorporates them into his music. His works are inspired by and engage with issues surrounding sustainability and human perception of the natural world. His music has been performed at numerous new music festivals including the Society of Composers, Inc. National Conference, the John Donald Robb Composers Symposium, the Midwest Composers Symposium, the Exchange of Midwest Composers Conference, the Iowa Composers Forum, the Wisconsin Alliance for Composers Festival, the New Music on the Bayou Festival, and the New Music Gathering.
Jonah is a founding member of the Laptop Orchestra of the University of Iowa and has participated in many performances with that ensemble. His sound installation IC1223 was performed in Iowa City in December, 2014.
