Recording

Trio Of Duets was composed in the spring of 2014. Source recordings for the piece were collected from recorded improvisations involving myself and one other musician. Three different sets of recordings were used, hence the name of the piece. Sections of the improvisations were extracted and processed, mostly in the frequency domain, using custom made/hacked Max patches.

Improvisation is a collaborative art form. Artists involved this type of process react in real-time and can have a physical and emotional response to what is happening around them. The real-time responses from Andris Balins, Blake Fleming and Julie Licata inspired this piece and their reactions on the source recordings were integral in the structure of the work. This piece is dedicated to them.
